(Main Office)

The firm of Brown Lewis Janhunen & Spencer has been serving the population of Southwest and Coastal Washington for nearly 50 years.

The firm has the highest rating from Martindale-Hubble, in an actual peer rating system in which the lawyers are rated by their competitors and fellow lawyers in the same community. The firm has held this rating for many years.

The emphasis of our legal practice is litigation, civil, criminal and domestic. We regularly handle insurance claims of all kinds, automobile accidents, property defects, product liability, malpractice, business torts, and first party claims. We also have a long history of providing legal defense services to persons who are being sued and their insurance carrier hires us to defend them. Our trial record in this county and in surrounding counties is.

Our firm is responsible for one of the few jury verdicts in this part of the state to exceed one million dollars. Our firm was also responsible for one of the very first trials in this part of the state to employ computer-generated graphics to illustrate and explain complicated evidence for the jury.

We also represent businesses and banks, who rely on us for expertise inside the courtroom and quality advice designed to keep them outside the courtroom.

We have four lawyers whose total combined experience exceeds 145 years of legal practice. Each of our lawyers is an integral part of this community, with a rich history of service in a variety of roles. Two of our lawyers have served as the elected Prosecuting Attorney for Grays Harbor County, and three of the four have worked in that office in their early careers. One of our lawyers served with distinction as a Superior Court Judge before joining the firm. (Over the years, three former members of this firm have gone on to become Judges of the Superior Court.) Our lawyers volunteer in a diverse number of capacities within the legal profession and in the community at large.

We have two fully staffed offices one in the population center of the County and the other in the County seat, right across the street from the Courthouse.

Even though we've been around a long time, we are thoroughly modern and fully committed to the future. We use a fully computerized, state-of-the-art billing system, instantaneous e-mail at every desk, digital and remote dictation, and secure computers protected by systems that are monitored by a sophisticated local vendor.

We emphasize litigation, with particular attention to tort and business litigation, family law, real estate disputes, and criminal defense (Mr. Janhunen and Mr. Spencer both formerly served as Prosecuting Attorney for Grays Harbor County).

We regularly appear as defense counsel in tort cases at the request of many of the largest insurance carriers. Our insurance work also includes coverage matters, first-party litigation, and inter-company disputes. Our continuing presence in this field has led to the growth of a substantial plaintiff's personal injury practice as well, in which we have employed sophisticated technology, including computer-animated reconstruction.

Our firm also maintains a busy general practice in selected areas, including business, real estate, probate, banking, and municipal law (Mr. Lewis served as municipal counsel to the City of Ocean Shores in excess of 15 years).

Our lawyers are actively involved in alternate dispute resolution, and we promote the use of arbitration and mediation where suitable to our clients' needs. Our lawyers (including Mr. Spencer -- a former Superior Court Judge) regularly serve as arbitrators.
