Hodges, Doughty and Carson dates back to 1931 with the partnership of J. H. Hodges and J. H. Doughty. Our present firm name was adopted in 1957 when Richard L. Carson joined the firm to form Hodges, Doughty and Carson. We have grown slowly but steadily over the years and are now made up of twenty five lawyers engaged in a diversified civil practice. Our aim is professional excellence in service to our clients.

We are a full-service law firm providing a broad range of legal services to both national and local clients. We are engaged in a trial practice handling various types of cases including product liability, workers' compensation, medical malpractice, construction, arson, aviation, vehicular accidents and general liability. We also handle contractual and commercial matters, utility law, bankruptcy, banking, taxation, estate planning, family and adoption law. Our attorneys have extensive experience in both state and federal trial and appellate courts. The firm also has a distinguished record of providing leadership in professional organizations, having provided two presidents of the Tennessee Bar Association, four presidents of the Knoxville Bar Association, a chairman of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, five Fellows of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, four Fellows (one the State Chair) of the American Bar Foundation, five Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers and five Masters of the Bench of the American Inns of Court, several past and present members of the Boards of Governors for the Tennessee and Knoxville Bar Associations, as well as having had many other honors come to our attorneys.
