Kathleen A. Milsark (Partner) born 1946; admitted to bar, 1981, Pennsylvania and U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania; 1991, U.S. Court of Appeals, Third Circuit; 2000, U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit; 2004, U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit. Kathleen has extensive commercial litigation experience in a wide range of subject matter areas. Before joining Haines & Associates, she spent nearly twenty years as a general litigator at a large general practice law firm, where her primary focus was on "big case" complex commercial litigation, including antitrust, intellectual property, corporate contract, and securities and shareholder litigation. She spent the following nine years with an intellectual property boutique, specializing in patent litigation in industries including telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and polymer science, where she also provided antitrust advice on intellectual property-related matters. Kathleen received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, cum laude, where she was Executive Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review and became a member of the Order of the Coif. She began her career clerking in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for the late Judge Edward R. Becker, who later became Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and before several federal courts, including the Third, Ninth, and Federal Circuit Courts of Appeals. Before entering law school, Kathleen received a degree in music education from Indiana University and taught music in the public schools. She maintains an avid interest in chamber music, as well as in hiking, canoeing, and other outdoor pursuits. Andrew A. Chirls (Partner) born Maplewood, New Jersey, 1956; admitted to bar, 1981, Pennsylvania. Education: University of Pennsylvania (A.B., cum laude, 1977); University of California (J.D., 1981). Andrew Chirls has been trying a broad variety of business and tort cases for more than 25 years. A graduate of the University of California (Boalt Hall) School of Law, Mr. Chirls served as a clerk for the United States District Court in New Jersey for a year, and then spent 25 years litigating at Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen, where he was a partner from 1989 to 2009. Mr. Chirls has been class counsel in securities cases, and was the representative of the AHP Settlement Trust, which administered a $4.3 billion class settlement arising from marketing of the diet drug combination known as Fen Phen. He was the first lawyer to represent a plaintiff in an AIDS or HIV discrimination case presented to a jury in Pennsylvania, and was lead counsel in a class action involving exposure to toxic metals at a dialysis clinic. In the field of business law, Mr. Chirls has tried several contract cases arising from mergers, acquisitions and dissolutions. Also active in employment law, Mr. Chirls has litigated cases of wrongful discharge and discrimination involving individual employees and group reductions in force. Mr. Chirls is recognized as an authority in the field of property rights and condemnation law, involving the Constitutional rights of property owners when governments and utility companies take property for public projects. He has taught courses and written treatises on the field of condemnation law. Mr. Chirls is a leader in the legal profession and his community. He was Chancellor of the 13,000 member Philadelphia Bar Association in 2005 and now serves on the American Law Institute and on the diversity committee of the National Conference of Bar Presidents. He was chairman of the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations. He is president of Philadelphia-based BalletX. In the opinion of some of his friends, he plays cocktail lounge piano at a respectable level, and he has a life list of 329 North American birds that he has identified. James A. Wells (Partner) born Charleroi, Pennsylvania, April 14, 1969; admitted to bar, 1994, Pennsylvania. Education: University of Pittsburgh (B.S., Chemistry, cum laude, 1991); West Virginia University (J.D., 1994). Mr. Wells graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a degree in Chemistry. He obtained his Law Degree from the West Virginia University College of Law, where he was an Articles Editor for the Law Review and graduated as a member of the Order of the Coif. Mr. Wells began practicing as a trial lawyer in 1994 and has successfully tried cases before juries throughout Pennsylvania. Mr. Wells is active in local, state and national bar associations. The most recent addition to the Haines & Associates litigation team, Mr. Fry graduated in the top 20% of his class at Temple University, James E. Beasley School of Law. Throughout his tenure at Temple Law, Mr. Fry kept busy as a member of Temple Law Review and as a leader in the student government, earning him the Albert M. Cohen Memorial Award for outstanding service to the law school as Vice President of the Student Bar Association. Active in the community, Mr. Fry served on the Board of Directors of GALLOP and as President of the Temple Law chapter of The Greater Philadelphia Outlaw. Mr. Fry was led to pursue a legal career by his passion for promoting human rights. During law school he held internships in the free legal clinic of Equality Advocates Pennsylvania, as well as the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. Patrick Campbell is a nationally recognized and highly regarded commercial litigator, union negotiator and organizer. For nine years, Mr. Campbell represented the umpires of Major League Baseball as associate counsel to the MLUA.
