The law partnership was originally formed in 1996 when Mr. Burkam left the bench as a Delaware County Municipal Court Judge. The firm handles both civil and criminal litigation. All three of the partners work extensively in the area of domestic relations handling divorces, dissolutions and custody matters. Additionally, the firm handles a wide variety of cases, including criminal and traffic cases, wills and estates, automobile accidents and personal injury cases, contract disputes, wrongful death claims, and real estate transactions. The firm would best be described as a general practice law firm offering a wide variety of services to their clients. When a client needs a specialist in a particular area of the law, the firm has established relationships with numerous other law firms and attorneys throughout the area and frequently collaborates with specialized firms to meet the needs of their clients. MEMBERS OF FIRMJeffrey A. Burkam (Partner) born Columbus, Ohio, June 17, 1952; admitted to bar, 1979, Ohio. Education: Wittenberg University (B.A., 1974); Capital University (J.D., 1979); Order of the Curia. Mr. Burkam began practicing law in Delaware County, Ohio in the fall of 1980. Prior to that, he served for two years as the law clerk for Judge Dean Strausbaugh in the Tenth Ohio District Court of Appeals. In 1995, he was appointed to the position of Municipal Court Judge by the governor of the State of Ohio. After serving for one year, Mr. Burkam returned to the private practice of law and formed the law firm which is now known as Burkam, Fuller & Herzog. Jeff grew up in Delaware and graduated from Delaware Hayes in 1970. In 1980, he and his wife, Ann, returned to Delaware to raise a family and pursue a career in the practice of law. Jeff and Ann have two adult children, both of whom graduated from Delaware Hayes High School and Wittenberg University. Ann is a science teacher with the Buckeye Valley Local Schools. Mr. Burkam's practice encompasses a wide range of legal matters, from the handling of complex civil litigation (including a four million dollar judgment in Delaware County), to murder trials, to complex divorce work. Jeff continues to handle a number of cases in the Delaware Municipal Court, including drunk driving cases and criminal matters such as domestic violence. A substantial portion of Mr. Burkam's practice involves family law. He has handled hundreds, if not thousands, of divorces and dissolutions over the years in Delaware County and, on occasion, surrounding counties. He also represents individuals who have been injured in such things as automobile accidents and in wrongful death actions. Jeff has been very involved in various sorts of community affairs. The following is a list of many of Mr. Burkam's other activities which have given him a wealth of experience and background which he can put to use for his clients. RECOGNITION AND AWARDS. Recipient of the Chairman's Award from the Delaware County Republican Party in 1995 and 2007 for service to the Party and the Community. Recipient of community service award from Help Anonymous, recognizing service on the Help Anonymous Board from 1982-1993, pro-bono legal counsel. Recognition for outstanding leadership from the Delaware County United Way for chairing the Professional Division in 1984 and 1997. Selected as Jaycee of the Year for Delaware County in approximately 1983. Named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations between peoples of the world. Presented with the District Governor's Award of Rotary International for outstanding performance by the Delaware Rotary Club. Recipient of Rotary International fellowship for year of study in Sydney, Australia. Member of the 1973 Wittenberg University NCAA Division III National Football Championship Team.
