(Main Office)

Our diverse practice covers all aspects of litigation, civil and criminal, trials and appeals in the state and Federal courts as well as mediation and arbitration.

For example, we handle Product Liability and Consumer Fraud cases, Personal Injury and Professional Malpractice cases. The firm has recently obtained awards for clients such as $ 6.9 million in a product liability case involving injuries sustained in the rollover of a tractor trailer and $2.8 million for a medical malpractice action involving injuries to the common bile duct during a laparoscopic gall bladder surgery.

The firm's Contested Probate attorneys have years of experience assisting family members negotiating, settling or litigating will contests or other estate disputes, whether undue influence in the execution of a will, lack of testamentary capacity or other grounds which may exist for challenging the validity of the instrument. Cohn Lifland successfully argued the only known case in New Jersey where the court found constructive separation of a will in spite of our statute which provides for express revocation only.

For clients with Family Law issues, we offer a collaborative law option in addition to mediation and litigation. Our attorneys have handled many divorce and custody cases involving children with disabilities and other special circumstances, ably assisted by other attorneys in our Disabilities Law Group.

The Disabilities Law Group is a unique collaboration of attorneys, representing individuals with disabilities, their families and the organizations which serve the disabled. We recognize that there are challenges unique to each disability and work with each client and his or her family to solve their specific legal or long term planning needs. The firm offers counseling, planning, litigation, mediation and/or collaborative law as best suits the needs of each client. Our attorneys' experience spans a variety of practice areas including Special Needs Education Law, Family Law, Estate and Trust Planning, the full range of litigation services necessitated by traumatic injuries from any cause (malpractice, product defects, accidents), Employment Discrimination and the Formation and Development of Not-for-profit Organizations.

In the Commercial Litigation area, Cohn Lifland has been involved in numerous leading cases which have established important precedent both state and nationwide. We have attained billions of dollars of recoveries on behalf of our clients, including In re AT&T Securities Litigation, 455 F.3d 160 (3d Cir. 2006) in which we achieved a $100 million recovery for the benefit of the class defrauded shareholders.

We represent clients in Investor Litigation cases in state and federal actions and in arbitrations before the New York Stock Exchange, NASD and the American Arbitration Association arising out of the sale or purchase of securities by brokers for customers. These include class actions, actions to recover damages arising out of the purchase and sale of investments and in derivative actions, as well as actions designed to enforce shareholder rights.

The firm actively assists its clients in the formation, maintenance, purchase and sale of all types of business entities from the simplest business formations through most forms of contractual relationships, to highly sophisticated mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. Our Business Law clients range from entrepreneurs to significant financial institutions; from local retail establishments to billion dollar conglomerates. Attorneys in the firm also advise on and handle commercial matters involving Bankruptcy and Reorganization.

Our Real Estate practice group applies years of practical knowledge and legal experience to the purchase, sale, development and financing of commercial and residential real estate for a wide range of clients, from first-time home buyers to land developers, builders and commercial landlords in their real estate transactions. We have dedicated associates and paralegals to ensure competent and cost effective representation.

In a related area, the firm provides Transition Litigation support to condominium associations in claims against developers, subcontractors, material manufacturers and vendors as well as professionals, including engineers and architects. We have experienced counsel who have dealt with a wide variety of issues including EIFS related problems, structural defects, water infiltration and complex accounting issues.

The firm also offers personal and corporate Bankruptcy representation and maintains an active Criminal Law practice in state and federal courts, in trials as well as appeals.
