Firm Profile:
Gilmore, Rees & Carlson, P.C. was established by three former partners in the Trusts and Estates Department of the Boston law firm of Hale and Dorr. Daniel J. Gilmore and William J. Rees founded the firm (then known as Gilmore & Rees) in 1988 and in 1989 Christopher T. Carlson resigned his partnership at Hale and Dorr to join the firm. In 1992, Bruce J. Bettigole, formerly chairman of the financial planning department of Adler Pollock & Sheehan, Inc. in Providence, Rhode Island, joined the firm as partner. Paul D. Bishop and Sidney A. Slobodkin, both formerly senior partners at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. in Boston, joined the firm as senior partners in 1997. Karin Blake, (P.C.), formerly a senior partner at Peabody & Brown in Boston, joined the firm as of counsel in 1998. The firm has grown quickly and dramatically, and has gained a reputation for expertise in complex and sophisticated trust, tax, estate, probate, real estate and business law matters. Although broadly based in New England, the firm's ever growing client base now spans 45 states and includes clients in 13 foreign countries. Most clients are referred to the firm by accountants, other attorneys, financial and investment consultants, insurance professionals and banks. In fact, many of these professionals themselves rely on the firm for expert legal assistance in their own businesses. Five of the seven trusts and estates partners have been elected Fellows of the prestigious American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. The firm has two convenient suburban Boston locations, in Franklin on Route 495 and in Wellesley on Route 128. In 1997 a Providence, Rhode Island office was opened.
