Quality. Service. Efficiency. Communication. These are the cornerstones of the firm's culture and the keys to its success. Established on January 1, 1982, Barnes & Thornburg LLP is relatively young; however, its founding date belies the firm's rich history. The firm's roots can be traced to two cities, South Bend and Indianapolis. Our northern Indiana presence began in 1926 with the establishment of Seebirt Oare & Omacht, and later grew when they merged with an Elkhart firm, Cawley and Harman. In Indianapolis, four partners opened Barnes Hickam Pantzer & Boyd on September 13, 1940. They began the firm with 13 people in an office of 13 rooms on the 13th floor of the Merchants Bank Building, the tallest in Indiana at that time. The number 13 has proven to be a lucky number for Barnes & Thornburg LLP. Since 1982, the firm has opened offices in Chicago, Fort Wayne, Washington, D.C., Grand Rapids and merged with Jenkins, Coffey, Hyland, Badger & Conard, an intellectual property firm; Roberts, Ryder, Rogers & Scism, a labor and employment law firm; Church, Nilsson & Paulen of Elkhart; Roemer & Mintz, LLP, of South Bend, and most recently, Lee, Mann, Smith, McWilliams, Sweeney & Ohlson of Chicago. The firm has also been joined by Gallucci, Hopkins & Theisen, P.C., a Fort Wayne firm with an extensive labor and employment practice, and Johnson Lawhead Buth & Pope, P.C., an Indianapolis firm with a concentration in estate planning. Today Barnes & Thornburg LLP is the largest law firm in Indiana and one of the largest in the Midwest. More than 390 attorneys provide legal services to more than 11,000 international, national, regional and local clients. With offices in Indianapolis, Chicago, Elkhart, Fort Wayne, Grand Rapids, South Bend, and Washington, D.C., we are a business-minded law firm serving clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies and governmental entities to individuals and nonprofit organizations. We represent the interests of businesses in our primary practices: business, tax and real estate, creditors' rights, energy, telecommunications and utilities, environmental law, governmental services and finance, healthcare, intellectual property, labor and employment law, litigation, appellate, business and technology, construction law, e-commerce, economic development, entrepreneurial services, financial institutions, international, media, pension and benefits litigation, property tax, transportation and white collar crime. Each of our offices offers a unique blend of services which collectively make Barnes & Thornburg LLP a diverse and dynamic legal resource for our clients and communities. We have lawyers involved at city, state and national levels of the legal profession as officers, chairpersons and committee members in legal organizations. Others are authors, presenters and drafters of legislation. Most of our lawyers are active in their communities and provide civic leadership. Each office sponsors, contributes to, and often leads, an array of community activities. | | Firm Size: 390 | Law Firm Affiliations:
