Lisa J. Acevedo is a partner in the Health Care Industry Team of Foley & Lardner LLP and co-chairs the Team's Provider Operations Work Group. She is also a member of the Privacy, Security & Information Management Practice and Life Sciences Industry Team. She provides regulatory and transactional advice and general counsel to clients representing virtually all aspects of health care.
Ms. Acevedo counsels clients on compliance with statutes and regulations impacting companies doing business in the health care industry, including the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark, the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and implementing regulations, including the Prescription Drug Marketing Act. She also provides advice on related guidelines including the OIG Compliance Program Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and the PhRMA Code on Interactions with Healthcare Professionals.
Ms. Acevedo provides strategic counsel in the areas of federal health privacy laws, including HIPAA, FERPA, Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Records, as well as state laws governing the confidentiality of health information, medical records, mental health records and records containing other highly sensitive information. She provides guidance and counsel on privacy and security issues faced by clients as they implement interoperable electronic medical records systems and other technology involving health information.
Ms. Acevedo has written several articles and delivered a number of speeches on privacy and security matters, including HIPAA compliance, as well as health care fraud and abuse, Stark, tax-exempt issues, and FDA issues. She has been an adjunct instructor of health law at Benedictine University in its Master's in Public Health graduate program.
Prior to joining Foley, Ms. Acevedo was corporate counsel for Baxter International, Inc., where she had primary responsibility for advising and assisting two divisions of the company in FDA compliance issues. She was also designated Baxter's privacy leader, with principal responsibility for advising on privacy, including U.S. and international privacy legislation. In this role, she helped to create and implement the company's Privacy and Security Program on a global basis. As corporate counsel, Ms. Acevedo also advised all divisions of the company in Medicare/Medicaid fraud and abuse issues.

Ms. Acevedo received her law degree, with honors, in 1995 from DePaul University College of Law and was admitted to the Order of the Coif. Marshall J. Brown is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP. He is vice chair of the Mechanical & Electromechanical Technologies Practice and a member of the Electronics, Trademark, Copyright & Advertising and China Practices.
Mr. Brown has extensive legal experience in many areas of patent counseling, working with companies specializing in areas such as computer software products, telecommunications technologies, consumer products, medical devices, financial products, electrical devices, computer networks and systems, and various types of audio and video communication protocols. Mr. Brown's counseling work includes U.S. and foreign patent prosecution; patent clearance matters; patent infringement and validity opinions; freedom to operate studies; and intellectual property due diligence in mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Brown also regularly provides technical and legal support on patent litigation matters. A few of Mr. Brown's recent litigation cases include:

· Catalina Marketing Corporation v. LDM Group, LLC. Mr. Brown represented Catalina in an alleging infringement by LDM with regards to prescription processing technology
· Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc. v. Kuhl Wheels, LLC and Epilogics Group, where Mr. Brown represented Kuhl Wheels in a case involving automobile wheels.
Mr. Brown has worked with a wide variety of companies, ranging from consumer product manufacturers to health care providers and medical device companies, on a variety of trademark issues as well. These issues have involved trademark registration, enforcement and licensing, and domain name protection and enforcement.
Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Brown interned in the design and development areas of Ford Motor Company's Light Truck division.
Mr. Brown graduated from the University of Michigan (B.S.E., magna cum laude, mechanical engineering, 1996; J.D., cum laude, 1998), where he was executive editor of the Michigan Telecommunications and Technology Law Review.

Beth Corey is a partner at Foley & Lardner LLP, where she chairs the national Real Estate Practice Group and specializes in representing domestic and international investors in real estate assets, investment funds and gaming. Her practice includes such diverse assets as retail centers, sports arenas, hospitals, healthcare centers, senior living projects, hotels, casinos and mixed-use developments. Her counsel for gaming projects includes lotteries, Virtual Technology Lottery and Internet gaming. As Real Estate Practice Group Chair, Ms. Corey manages more than 70 lawyers across Foley's offices. Her responsibilities include business and strategic planning, professional development, professional responsibility and budget management.
Ms. Corey is actively involved in other specific areas of law firm management and leadership including Foley's Diversity Committee and Committee for Alternative Pricing and Service Delivery Solutions.
Ms. Corey received her law degree from New York Law School in 1982 and a B.A. from Butler University in 1973. Jeanne M. Gills is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP and vice-chair of the firm's national Intellectual Property Department and Intellectual Property Litigation Practice.
Her trial experience includes such "bet the company" cases as DeKalb v. Pioneer, a patent case concerning genetically engineered corn where over $500 million was at stake. With her electronics background, Ms. Gills has litigated many patent and technology cases involving semiconductors, memory devices, plasma displays, optical projectors used in aircraft, diesel engines, and other complex electronics and computer software matters.
Throughout her career, she has represented clients in many diverse industries (from electronics to biotechnology) in complex patent, trade secret, trademark, copyright, and unfair competition litigation and appeals. Other recent trial experience includes federal jury trials and arbitrations in multiple forums, including jury trial involving patent infringement of a dual-energy x-ray scanning device; jury trial involving copyright and trade dress infringement of a silo unloader; jury trial involving trade dress infringement of a rotary electric shaver; and arbitration involving copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and other business claims regarding computer software. She has also successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in numerous preliminary injunction and TRO proceedings, including suits involving copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation of computer software; patent, trademark, and trade dress infringement of a hand tool; copyright and trade dress infringement of robotic toy designs; copyright infringement of architectural plans; and trade secret misappropriation of customer lists-all of which resulted in favorable settlement terms for her clients. In addition, her experience includes ITC actions and conducting discovery abroad throughout Europe and Japan.
Her broad-based intellectual property experience resulted in her being recognized by the AIPLA and the MCCA as one of the country's "Top Minority IP Partners" (2003), as being one of less than 5% of Illinois attorneys selected for inclusion in Illinois Super Lawyers® (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009), and as a leading patent litigator and trade secrets lawyer by The Legal 500 US (2007). She was also recognized among the notable lawyers in Who's Who in Black Chicago (2006). In addition, Ms. Gills received an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell's peer review process. As an attorney registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Ms. Gills regularly counsels clients in all aspects of the procurement, registration, enforcement, advertising, marketing/branding, and protection of intellectual property in the U.S. and abroad. Representative experience includes: counseling companies on the protection of product configuration trade dress and the use of color as a trademark; counseling companies regarding copyright ownership and infringement disputes, particularly in the areas of computer software and associated documentation; handling contractual disputes concerning intellectual property rights and licenses and the theft or use of intellectual property by a company's former employees or independent contractors; counseling clients on IP holding companies, including how to maximize value from an IP portfolio when certain assets are likely to be the subject of IP litigation; and handling cases involving the intersection of trade dress, design patent, and utility patent protection for consumer and industrial products. Apart from her intellectual property litigation and counseling experience, she has prepared various intellectual property licenses, including franchise, software, and disaster recovery agreements.
Ms. Gills is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School (J.D., 1994) and Michigan State University (B.S., with honors, electrical engineering, 1991). She is admitted to practice in Illinois, the Seventh Circuit, and various federal district and appellate courts, in addition to the USPTO. Phillip M. Goldberg is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP and a member of the firm's Management Committee. Mr. Goldberg is chair of the firm's Securities Enforcement & Litigation Practice and a member of the Securities, Commodities & Exchange Regulation Practice. Harold L. Kaplan is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP. He, among other things, is the leader of the firm's Corporate Trust and Bondholders Rights Team and is a member of the firm's Bankruptcy & Business Reorganizations Practice. Over the last three decades, Mr. Kaplan has represented financial institutions, debtors, trustees under the Bankruptcy Code and the Securities Investors Protection Act, foreign liquidators in ancillary proceedings, creditors committees, and other creditor groups, including representing indenture trustees and bondholder interests.
In addition to more traditional areas of practice, he has extensive experience in claims trading and regulated industry matters, including railroad, airline and other transportation reorganizations; utility industry matters; securities industry and broker-dealer matters; insurance and bank insolvencies; telecommunications, gaming, oil and gas and mining proceedings; and health care industry matters, including health care finance, reorganizations, insolvencies, and other proceedings.
Mr. Kaplan was named one of 12 outstanding bankruptcy lawyers in the country in 2005, 2004 and 2003, and one of 13 in 2001, by Turnarounds & Workouts magazine. He has been a presenter at numerous conferences on corporate reorganization, distressed debt, distressed real estate, health care financing and bond default, and chairs the Annual Corporate Reorganizations Conference held in Chicago. He is a past chair of the Chicago Bar Association Bankruptcy and Reorganization Committee; chair of the American Bar Association Health Care-Related and Not-for-Profit Bankruptcy Issues Subcommittee; and chair of the American Bar Association Committee on Trust Indentures and Indenture Trustees, as well as serving on several related committees, including the advisory drafting group of the Subcommittee on Revision of the Model Simplified Indenture. John B. Palmer III is a partner and chair of the firm's Tax & Employee Benefits Practice.
Mr. Palmer's practice focuses on federal income tax matters, with special emphasis on corporate taxation and partnerships and limited liability companies. He has broad experience in structuring, restructuring, and generally advising investment management firms, hedge funds, and private equity funds. In addition to his experience in the taxation of partnerships and other pass-through entities, he is one of the firm's principal resources for answers to tax accounting questions.
Mr. Palmer also has broad experience in the representation of Fortune 500 clients before the Internal Revenue Service. He has negotiated a highly favorable settlement with the IRS Appeals Office to allow a Fortune 500 corporate client to deduct a multimillion-dollar loss resulting from a complex corporate restructuring, notwithstanding that another large Chicago law firm had advised the client that the issue was not worth pursuing. He has also obtained a significant concession from the IRS on a novel partnership statute-of-limitations issue, resulting in a large refund for the client.
Mr. Palmer teaches tax accounting as an adjunct professor at IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law for the Masters of Tax program. He is a frequent speaker and author on a wide variety of tax issues and is a member of the partnership committee of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation.

Mark L. Prager is the managing partner of the Chicago office of Foley & Lardner LLP and serves on the firm's national management committee. He is chair of the national Bankruptcy & Business Reorganizations Practice, which focuses on Chapter 11 reorganizations, litigation, transactions, regulatory and corporate finance matters.
Mr. Prager has been retained as lead counsel to financial institutions, secured creditors, debtors, indenture trustees, and creditor committees in national and local reorganization cases, commercial transactions, and complex litigation. These cases include multi-billion dollar official creditor committee representation, liquidating trust administration, and liquidations of broker-dealers under the Securities Investor Protection Act.
Mr. Prager is an adjunct professor of law at Washington University in St. Louis (2008, 2009 and 2010) and teaches a course on advanced corporate restructuring. In addition, he was elected secretary to the board of directors of the Chicago Council of Lawyers and was chair of the Council's Legislative Committee. He is also a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Mr. Prager served as legal intern to former Chief Bankruptcy Judge Robert L. Eisen for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division. For three years, he was an arbitrator for the National Association of Securities Dealers.

Mr. Rippie advises clients on gas and electric issues and represents industry clients before regulatory agencies including state public utility commissions and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and state and federal courts.
Mr. Rippie's practice focuses on complex transactional, operational, and regulatory matters, and ranges from strategic counseling to trial work. George T. Simon is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP and a former member of the firm's Management Committee. Mr. Simon is founder of the firm's Securities Enforcement & Litigation Practice and has guided its expansion since 1991 into one of the largest practices of its kind in the country. He is also chair of the Securities, Commodities & Exchange Regulation Practice and a member of the Transactional & Securities Practice.
Mr. Simon's practice involves the representation of firms in the securities industry, such as exchanges, broker-dealers, investment advisers, banks and investment companies. For these clients he provides both regulatory and strategic advice, especially in the context of business expansion and development of new products such as exchange traded funds. He has represented five national securities exchanges, including the NYSE and Amex, as well as the NASD. He also represents many of the world's largest brokerage firms, banks and technology firms in their securities related matters.
After practicing corporate law in New York City for four years, Mr. Simon joined the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. as a staff attorney in 1976. His work there principally involved a restructuring of the nation's securities markets following the 1975 Securities Acts Amendments. Mr. Simon was instrumental in these changes and advanced to branch chief, assistant director and finally associate director of the Division of Market Regulation. He left the SEC in 1981 to become partner in a Chicago law firm where he practiced securities law until joining Foley in 1991.
A frequent speaker on securities law issues, Mr. Simon has served on the Executive Committee of the Northwestern University Law School Garrett Institute and has spoken at the Institute, as well as for the Securities Industry Association, the American Law Institute/American Bar Association, the National Association of Compliance Professionals, and the Securities Traders Association.
Mr. Simon, along with Kathryn Trkla, was the author of the definitive article on the regulation of exchange specialists, "The Regulation of Specialists and Implications for the Future," published in the November 2005 issue of the Business Lawyer. In 2002, Mr. Simon was selected as a "BTI Client All-Star" as a result of recommendations by his Fortune 1000 clients for his superior client service skills. He also was selected for inclusion in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Illinois Super Lawyers® lists for his securities and corporate finance work.*
