Biography
Mary Beth Long is a seasoned matrimonial lawyer. Prior to joining Berger Schatz, she practiced family law with one of the most prestigious firms in Virginia for 10 years. Before becoming a lawyer, she worked for the Virginia legislature as a nonpartisan staff member for several years before moving on to a career as a print journalist. At the urging of a judge whose court she covered, she entered law school at age 30. While attending law school in Virginia, Ms. Long's writing skills earned her a spot on the Law Review and she was ultimately named the publication's Manuscripts Editor. Her oral argument skill were tested as in the school's annual moot court competition and she was rewarded with quarter final finish and a slot on the Moot Court Board. In her last year of law school, she won the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Virginia Chapter, essay contest and a McNeil Writing Competition prize.
