The case, filed under Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) statute and the Federal Extortionate Extension of Credit statute, benefited twenty thousand Georgia borrowers, paid cash benefits, provided credit reporting corrections, and contributed to nationwide industry reforms. Represented class action plaintiffs in Winfred L. Wood, et al. v. Associates Financial Life Insurance Company and Associates Financial Services of America, Inc., Superior Court of Cobb County, Georgia, and Ralph C. Darden, et al. v. Ford Consumer Finance Company, Inc. and Associates Financial Life Insurance Company, Inc., U. S. District Court, Northern District of Georgia, alleging subsidiaries of Associates First Capital, largest U. S. subprime mortgage lender, unlawfully sold credit life insurance in a predatory lending scheme in violation of Georgia's Insurance Code and Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) statute, benefited 1500 Georgia borrowers, paid cash benefits, and contributed to nationwide industry reforms.
