She is a member of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys and an officer of the Gate City Bar Association. Akua was a prominent member of the Gate City Bar Paralegal Section where she was the Chair of the Pro Bono Committee for three years. In 2008, Akua received the Clarence R. Johnson, Jr. Founders Award for outstanding service as an outstanding Paralegal member of the Gate City Bar Association. Akua has also worked with the Truancy Intervention Project of Georgia since March 2005 as a Guardian ad Litem, tutor and mentor.
