About This Firm

Our Veteran-owned law firm leaves no stone unturned when representing our clients in court. Our attorneys, a former prosecutor, and a former insurance defense trial lawyer, practice in personal injury, criminal defense and civil litigation.

"Justice is the firm and continuous desire to render to everyone that which is due"

Van Riper & Nies relies on personal attention, open communication, hard work and trust in bringing justice to clients.

Our Florida, Veteran-owned, law firm practices in personal injury, criminal defense, family law, maritime injury, Longshore claims, Defense Base Act claims, and civil litigation.

Attorneys Christian Van Riper, a former Florida Prosecutor, and Tim Nies, a U.S. Army Ranger Veteran, and former senior casualty trial attorney for the largest insurance defense firm in the U.S., bring their unique experiences together in representing clients in Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Palm Beach & Broward Counties in all personal injury and complex criminal defense cases.

Tim leads the firm's personal injury practice. He has spent the past 10 years, first defending well-funded insurance companies and large corporations in complex personal injury cases, including motor vehicle crashes, truck accidents, motorcycle crashes, slip & falls, premises liability, negligent security, medical malpractice, product liability, construction site accidents and maritime injury claims, including cruise ship passenger injury claims, Defense Base Act claims, Longshore and Jones Act claims, then for the past three years prosecuting negligent insurance companies, corporations and individuals for the harms and losses caused to his clients.

Christian, our firm's principal criminal defense attorney, handles a broad range of criminal defense cases, including serious felonies, drug charges, violent offenses, DUIs, and complex federal crimes such as wire fraud and bank fraud.

Tim and Christian, try all cases together as a powerful trial team.

Our attorneys and professional staff are known for providing a high level of personal attention for our clients. We are here for them when they need us most, day or night.

Whether we are representing a criminal defendant, or a client with a serious and life-changing injury, our attorneys are dedicated to our clients' well-being and leave no stone unturned in advocating for our clients' interests.

We leave no stone unturned.

Our personal injury and criminal defense attorneys are known for the personal service and open communications with our clients. We are dedicated to the needs of our clients and their families.

Our attorneys practice in personal injury litigation, admiralty and maritime and complex criminal defense. Our motto is that we leave no stone unturned in the prosecution of injury claims for our clients.

The life experiences of our attorneys sets our firm apart. Our attorney, Timothy Nies, is a U.S. military veteran and a proud lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. When serving as an Airborne Ranger with the Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, he sustained a line-of-duty knee injury during a parachute mission. He had to work every day to rehabilitate his knee; however, the injury ultimately caused his medical discharge from the U.S. Army. Tim, more than most injury lawyers, understands how it feels to suffer from and overcome a life-changing injury. Tim was lucky the Army had skilled surgeons and that the VA was there to help him. Many civilians injured today are not so lucky. After his military service, Tim began his attorney career defending personal injury cases for insurance companies and large corporations, including Fortune 500 companies.

He was a senior Casualty Attorney for Marshall Dennehey, the largest, and arguably, the most respected insurance defense law firm in the world, with more than 450 attorneys.

Our attorney, Christian Van Riper, a former DCF Investigator, was selected as a Law Clerk for the Florida Supreme Court, which is an honor very few attorneys are selected for. Thereafter, Christian began his legal career as a State Attorney, where he litigated and tried many serious felony cases.

The work and life experiences of our attorneys affords our law firm unique and valuable insight into the lives and struggles of our clients and how best to present their cases before Florida jurors at trial. Our attorneys' experiences and background are as diverse as our clients and, equally important, we know what the prosecutor in criminal defense cases, or the insurance company lawyer in personal injury cases is thinking because we both have been there. This unique insight has proven very valuable over the years.

Tim and Christian, who are cousins who have known each other for most of their lives, work all personal injury and criminal defense cases as a trial team. This approach benefits our clients on two levels. First, both Tim and Christian are extremely familiar with the details of our clients' cases and are able to collaborate to effectively come up with a litigation and trial plan. Second, our clients are able to speak with an attorney about their cases at any time of the day or night. We are known for the personal attention we are able to provide to our clients. Our clients are usually surprised to be able to speak us after hours and on the weekends.

Our attorneys represent clients in all personal injury matters, including automobile and truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, boating accidents, premises liability, falls, inadequate security, construction site accidents, swimming pool injuries and drowning, product liability, boating injuries, personal watercraft injuries, Longshore and Harbor Workers' claims, Defense Base Act claims, cruise ship injuries, crime victim injuries, dog and animal bites, back injuries and wrongful death cases, as well as in complex criminal defense cases.

About Client Rating
About Peer Rating

Welcome to Martindale-Hubbell® Client Review, a new ratings service that allows you to view and provide feedback on a lawyer or law firm on service and relationship qualities such as Communication Ability, Responsiveness, Quality of Service, and Value for Money.

Determining a Rating

The Client Review Rating is determined through aggregation of validated responses. This compilation of Client Reviews translates to a numerical rating and associate descriptive term on a scale of 1 -5. 1 being lowest as "Rated" and 5 being highest as "Preeminent".

  • 4.5-5.0 Preeminent
  • 3.0-4.4 Distinguished
  • 1-2.9 Rated

Martindale-Hubbell uses a third-party resource to validate that the respondent is a living person, but cannot confirm the lawyer/client relationship, which in many cases is confidential. Clients must affirm that they are a client of the lawyer or firm identified for review at the time of the completed Client Review.

The Reviewers

Those who complete Client Reviews are clients of law firms who hired a lawyer within the last year, whose matter is not pending, and want to share their experience of that lawyer or law firm with other potential clients. Reviewers can be of any type from in-house counsel, corporate executives, small business owners to private individuals, and even sometimes another lawyer in a different jurisdiction.

Anonymity

Client Reviews are anonymous and reviewers' identities are not published; however a summary of basic demographics will be part of the display of responses.

Why do we collect demographics as part of the review?

Those who are researching a lawyer or law firm like to see that there are other clients who might be "like them". This is valuable information contributing to the decision-making process of hiring a lawyer.

Martindale-Hubbell's role

Martindale-Hubbell facilitates the process of Client Review by gathering responses, validating them and aggregating results for display online. The content of the responses are entirely from reviewers, the clients of the firm or lawyer.

It is important to note that Martindale-Hubbell does not undertake to develop Client Reviews for all firms and lawyers. Therefore, the fact that a firm or lawyer has not been reviewed should not be construed unfavorably. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome and Martindale-Hubbell accepts no responsibility for the content or accuracy of any review over which Martindale-Hubbell exercises no editorial review or control.
