| Sanders, Schnabel & Brandenburg, P.C. practices in the following areas of law:
Employee Benefits, Retirement Plans, Health and Welfare Plans. Executive Compensation. Estate Planning. | | Year Established: 1923 | Firm Profile:
SS&B is successor to a law practice established in 1923 by Lucien H. Mercier. Mr. Mercier worked with US Senator Robert A. Taft in drafting pension taxation provisions for the 1942 Revenue Act. From these roots, our firm developed expertise and an extensive practice in the area of tax-qualified pension plans. John A. Sanders joined Mr. Mercier's practice in 1951, devoting significant attention to employee benefit matters, and branching into estate planning and administration. During Robert V. Schnabel's tenure, beginning in the 1950s, SS&B continued to develop areas of expertise, including corporate organization and governance. Mr. Schnabel retired in 1998. Dan S. Brandenburg was first employed by the firm in 1973, and is now the firm's director. Through Mr. Brandenburg and attorneys Cheryl Risley Hughes, Joanne G. Jacobson, Susan Yoder Torres and Lincoln Weed, the legal practice established in 1923 continues today. SS&B's employee benefits practice includes retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and executive compensation arrangements. Our firm's related practice areas include estate planning and business law. SS&B's federal law practice serves clients throughout the US and abroad, including publicly-traded corporations, tax-exempt associations and their member service programs, and closely-held businesses. SS&B also represents financial institutions, consultants and third party administrators that provide services to employee benefit plans. SS&B's state law practice is limited to jurisdictions where our attorneys hold active licenses; currently DC, Maryland, Virginia and New York. SS&B draws strength from attorneys' collective education and experience in the law of federal taxation and federal regulation of benefit plans, and by frequent contact with staff and key officials in federal agencies. SS&B attorneys participate in professional activities, study legal developments, and seek to contribute to our community. We are active in national and local professional groups such as the American Bar Association and the DC, Maryland and Virginia Bar Associations. We speak to Bar groups, legal societies and employee benefit groups, and teach continuing legal education courses. We also serve as authors and editors of legal treatises, professional journals, educational materials, articles and newsletters. | | Firm Size: 5 | Languages:
