Representative Cases & TransactionsCasesRep Matters: Police Officer Successfully Defended in Five Misconduct Lawsuits
Halloran & Sage recently received defendant's verdicts in five federal cases involving a police officer of a large Connecticut city. Five separate individuals brought civil rights actions alleging excessive force
/or unreasonable search
seizure claims against the officer. Attorney Mark Perkins was asked to represent the officer because corporation counsel had a conflict, as the officer had been terminated by the City for reasons unrelated to the civil rights cases. Corporation counsel represented the other officers who were sued in each case. Attorney Perkins tried three of the five cases before a jury, obtaining a defendant's verdict in each case. He filed motions for summary judgement in the two remaining cases, resulting in their dismissal.
