Al has achieved the highest rating for legal ability in Martindale-Hubbell. This is a testament to the fact that his peers ranked Al at the highest level of professional excellence. Al has been elected by his peers to the Northern California Super Lawyers each year since 2006. On April 23, 2009 Al was awarded the prestigious "Civil Justice Award" by the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association. This award is given to an attorney who shows integrity, grit, tenacity, ethics and great advocacy skills, and who contributes to the betterment of consumers and/or injured victims and their families. Al's book, Plaintiffs' Lawyers Guide to Minor Impact Cervical and Lumbar Injury (Thomson West 2008-2009), now in its fourth edition, is a strategic guide used by lawyers throughout America to fight back against the automobile insurance company tactics of deny, delay, and defend. Al has the proven ability to say no to an unreasonable settlement offer and take his clients' cases to trial. Since 1994 he has advocated for his clients' rights in thirty-four unlimited civil jury trials. Working as an instructor for the National Institute for Trail Advocacy Al has given his time and energy to teach other lawyers about litigation and trial technique.

The firm's expertise does not stop with Al's proven results and experience. Attorney Walter A. Haynes, IV focuses on catastrophic injury and death cases. Walter's experience as a California Highway Patrolman, an accident reconstructionist, and a licensed private investigator contribute to our client's success. While serving as a member of the California Highway Patrol, Walt trained as an accident reconstructionist, gaining experience that allowed him to qualify in state courts as an expert accident reconstruction. Walt has investigated over 3,000 motor vehicle accidents for both the Highway Patrol and allied agencies. Before becoming a lawyer Walt has served as both an expert accident reconstructionist and a licensed private investigator, consulting on investigations and issues of case theory for lawyers specializing in personal injury and product liability litigation. Walt approaches his cases with the starting point of a sound and thorough investigation and ensures that every client's case is meticulously prepared. Walt regularly litigates a broad variety of cases including wrongful death, multi-vehicle car crashes, vehicle crashworthiness, pedestrian injuries, motorcycle and bicycle accidents, dangerous roads and intersections, product liability cases in addition to standing up for the rights of neglected elders.

Stephen MacLean is a trial attorney who has worked with the firm since 1997. In addition to his trial experience, Stephen has appeared frequently before the California Court of Appeals. Before attending law school, Stephen worked for two decades in the medical industry, including 14 years at Stanford University Medical Center as a life support technician and respiratory therapy supervisor. Stephen understands the complicated medical issues involved in the personal injury and medical malpractice fields of law.

Courtney Cassinelli is a new Mom and trial attorney specializing in personal injury law, and has served as our Practice Manager since 2006. About Client Rating
About Peer Rating

Welcome to Martindale-Hubbell® Client Review, a new ratings service that allows you to view and provide feedback on a lawyer or law firm on service and relationship qualities such as Communication Ability, Responsiveness, Quality of Service, and Value for Money.

Determining a Rating

The Client Review Rating is determined through aggregation of validated responses. This compilation of Client Reviews translates to a numerical rating and associate descriptive term on a scale of 1 -5. 1 being lowest as "Rated" and 5 being highest as "Preeminent".

  • 4.5-5.0 Preeminent
  • 3.0-4.4 Distinguished
  • 1-2.9 Rated

Martindale-Hubbell uses a third-party resource to validate that the respondent is a living person, but cannot confirm the lawyer/client relationship, which in many cases is confidential. Clients must affirm that they are a client of the lawyer or firm identified for review at the time of the completed Client Review.

The Reviewers

Those who complete Client Reviews are clients of law firms who hired a lawyer within the last year, whose matter is not pending, and want to share their experience of that lawyer or law firm with other potential clients. Reviewers can be of any type from in-house counsel, corporate executives, small business owners to private individuals, and even sometimes another lawyer in a different jurisdiction.

Anonymity

Client Reviews are anonymous and reviewers' identities are not published; however a summary of basic demographics will be part of the display of responses.

Why do we collect demographics as part of the review?

Those who are researching a lawyer or law firm like to see that there are other clients who might be "like them". This is valuable information contributing to the decision-making process of hiring a lawyer.

Martindale-Hubbell's role

Martindale-Hubbell facilitates the process of Client Review by gathering responses, validating them and aggregating results for display online. The content of the responses are entirely from reviewers, the clients of the firm or lawyer.

It is important to note that Martindale-Hubbell does not undertake to develop Client Reviews for all firms and lawyers. Therefore, the fact that a firm or lawyer has not been reviewed should not be construed unfavorably. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome and Martindale-Hubbell accepts no responsibility for the content or accuracy of any review over which Martindale-Hubbell exercises no editorial review or control.
