Terrance A. Meador has practiced patent law in a strategic business context for almost twenty-five years. With the preparation and filing of over 400 patent applications and with a record of service to start-up, venture-funded and publicly owned companies, Mr. Meador applies partner-level expertise to the task of creating valuable intellectual capital in the form of patent assets.
Previously, Mr. Meador was a capital partner and Chair of the Patent and Trademark Practice Group at Gray, Cary, Ware & Freidenrich. He was also a principal with Baker, Maxham, Jester, & Meador and with Brown, Martin, Haller, & Meador. Mr. Meador has served the State Bar of California as Chair of the Intellectual Property Section.
Mr. Meador authored IBM's US Patent No. 5,794,209, rated by IP Law & Business (April 2003) as one of "Ten IBM Patents That Changed The World," and co-authored the chapter entitled "How to Write Software Patent Applications" in Sheldon's How To Write a Patent Application. He has also been an electronic systems engineer with the Department of the Navy.
Mr. Meador's experience is directed to the creation of intellectual capital assets. His background includes the efficient strategic handling of patent portfolios based on the application of careful planning, cost effective business methods and modern technology to all aspects of portfolio creation, management, and administration.
Mr. Meador has conducted patent practice in many technical areas, including: medical products; computer, processing and software technologies; database architecture and functionality; telecommunications, network and internet infrastructures and operations; business and financial methods and transaction technologies; scientific methodologies; electronics and optics; medical technology and instrumentation, bioengineering, and genomics; security, steganography, and biometrics; macro and micro instrumentation; electrical, industrial and manufacturing applications; retail products.
