Larry Russ is the founding and managing partner of Russ August & Kabat. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1975 and from UC Hastings School of Law in 1978. Mr. Russ focuses on trademark, copyright, patent litigation, representing emerging technology companies, and more recently has spearheaded a growing merger and acquisition department at RAK. Richard L. August (Partner) admitted to bar, 1974, California. Education: University of Illinois (B.S., with high honors and department distinction, 1969; B.A., with honors, 1969); University of Southern California (J.D., 1974). Richard L. August is a founding partner of Russ August & Kabat and the head of the real estate, corporate and finance group. Mr. August's practice focuses on the development and operation of large multifamily, industrial, shopping center, office and mixed use projects as well as all aspects of real estate development, including land use, construction, financing and the negotiating and preparation of joint venture agreements. He graduated from the University of Illinois as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Psi Chi national honor fraternities in 1969 and from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1974, where he was an Editor of the Southern California Law Review. Marc A. Fenster (Partner) admitted to bar, 1995, California. Education: University of California, San Diego (B.S., 1991; M.S., 1992); University of California at Los Angeles (J.D., 1995). Marc A. Fenster is a partner at Russ August & Kabat and the head of the Intellectual Property department. He specializes in intellectual property and litigation, with an emphasis on high-technology patent litigation. Mr. Fenster also advises clients regarding various intellectual property and licensing issues in a non-litigation context, particularly start-up high-tech clients seeking to protect and exploit their intellectual property assets. Steven M. Goldberg (Partner) admitted to bar, 1978, California and New York. Education: Harvard University (A.B., cum laude, 1975); New York University School of Law (J.D., 1978). Steven M. Goldberg is a partner at Russ August & Kabat and practices in the litigation department. He is well-known for his experience in entertainment, real estate, securities, business tort, employment, insurance coverage, and bad faith litigation, as well as partnership and intra-corporate disputes, antitrust, copyright and trademark infringement litigation. Mr. Goldberg routinely represents customers, stock brokers and brokerage firms in securities arbitrations and represents banks in loan participation litigation regarding troubled real estate projects. He also has represented individuals and companies in securities fraud litigation, including class actions and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigations. Rips is a partner at Russ August & Kabat and practices in the real estate and corporate and finance departments. Mr. Rips' practice focuses on the representation of developers and financiers of retail shopping, multifamily housing, office development and redevelopment projects.
