Laura Borden Riddell has extensive experience in the legislative and political arenas, both at the state and federal levels, and in civil litigation. Mrs. Riddell has represented clients in state and federal courts in Louisiana as well as California. She is admitted to practice before all California state courts, the United States District Courts of Appeal for both the Fifth and Ninth Circuits, and all Louisiana state and federal courts.
Mrs. Riddell received her B.A. in International Relations from the University of California, Davis and her Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. She also has a Certificate in International Legal Studies from the University of Salzburg. During her last year of law school, Mrs. Riddell worked as a certified law student in the Yolo County District Attorney's Office, prosecuting over 100 court trials in traffic court. During law school, she worked as a Legislative Aide for three members of the California Legislature. After law school, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked on Capitol Hill for a member of the United States Congress. She also worked at a civil litigation firm in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she practiced primarily insurance defense. During her time practicing law in New Orleans, she participated in all stages of litigation in state and federal courts, including a successful federal bench trial. Upon returning home to Sacramento, Mrs. Riddell was a lobbyist for two years, lobbying members of the Legislature on behalf of a trade association representing the interests of businesses in the judicial system. She also served as Corporations Counsel at the California Department of Corporations, where she advised the Commissioner on legislation affecting the department, worked on regulatory matters, and ensured compliance with laws administered by the department.
Mrs. Riddell currently serves on the Board of Directors at Sutterville Preschool in Sacramento and is a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association. She is also a member of the California and Louisiana Bar Associations, the American Bar Association, and the Federal Bar Association.
